A Collection of Interesting Prompts
This set of prompts breaks a decision discussion into three steps: first examine the case against it, then build the case for it, and finally compare the key evidence. Before using them, explain the decision, the alternatives, and what you already know.
1. Challenge the decision
Do not support my position yet. Argue against it as strongly as you can. Identify missing information, blindly optimistic assumptions, irreversible costs, opportunity costs, worst-case risks, and cognitive biases driven by emotion.
2. Make the case for it
Switch to a supportive perspective and list the core reasons why this decision makes sense.
3. Compare the evidence
Compare the key evidence impartially. Tell me which side has the stronger case, the biggest unresolved risk, and what conditions would reverse your conclusion. Do not balance the views for the sake of balance or force a fifty-fifty split.
